La historia sobre cómo nuestros padres fundadores escogieron Washington DC para ser la capital es muy interesante. (Ellos) Tuvieron muchas opciones y Philadelphia era la favorita. Washington DC fue una solución intermedia entre el norte y el sur, pero era muy controvertido en ese entonces.Suggestions above.
at the time = en ese entonces

Muy buen.

Quick question. You have 'options' changed from 'opción (f)' to 'opcion (m)'. According to this dictionary entry (http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/options), it's female and has the accented 'o'. Is that an error on their part, or a regional difference, or something else?

opciones is the plural form

The reason the last syllable is accented in the singular form is because this is contrary to the norm (usually nouns are stressed on the second-to-the-last syllable). When the noun is pluralized, another syllable is added and the stress of the noun is then considered normal, so the accent is dropped.

Ah, I failed to notice that the muchas remained, well 'muchas'. So it's still feminine, just with an es ending. Gotcha. :) Thanks.

You're welcome. The same thing happens with all the nouns that end in -ión when they're pluralized.
corrección -> correcciones
nación -> naciones

I vaguely remember learning that in class, but that was my junior or senior year in Highschool, so 11 or 12 years ago.

Yo recordo vagamente este lección, pero era mi año junior o senior, once or dosce años pasado.
