Repeat the process until a one-letter English word remains.

I'm not sure but as even I'm not expert at the English. I can't do much about it.

Only I could to see the words ING, START. And the last name of ying (Ling).

I havn't looked at the answer, but one solution might be:

staring

a ring (if more than one word is allowed)
ring
rin (this seems to be in (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rin) the Merriam Webster unabridged, it's also a Spanish word)
