Welcome Airi!

I would guess we need more information as to how "po" was used. How did your "amigo" use it? Maybe give us the sentence he/she used.

Was it a text message? If it was, I am not very good at interpreting them. I'll let my co-horts answer you. Sorry!:worried:

I recommend you that if you need information about kinda type of abbreviation in words you can use google.ca or other search machine, because it's very weir to know sometimes most when the person is not native of a place.:(

How about asking your "amigo", and then let the rest of us know. I had the same experience with lol...laugh out loud.

Learn something new everyday :o)

In Spanish or English? Sometimes the word "po" is used in English to refer to the police.

If you are talking about Spanish, I am not sure.

In Spanish. And if I remembered correctly,it was also used at the end of a sentence.Like for example,(i just read this somewhere)"CAMBIA LA JOTO PO".I don't know what's joto also.

I just found out joto is Spanish slang for gay man.

I am not sure about the word po. It could just be meaningless slang.

It sounds as if your amigo is from the Dominican Republic. (The slang you're learning is from there.)
The word po (sometimes spelled po') is the same as saying pues. It's a filler word.

Por ejemplo:
A po' ta bien.
= Ah, pues está bien.

I'm pretty sure "po" can but short for "pues" in some places.

Oops, I had this thread open for an hour and came back and replied before seeing the new replies.

Sí. Es la abreviación de pues en Chile.

Yo se de eso... ;)

"Hola po, cómostai? Que querí conmigo?

Eso es chileno puro, no es castellano. :)

Wow. I've never seen "po" abbreviated for "pues." I've only seen "pos." So I'm going to go ahead and assume that "pues" is shortened to "pos," which is then shortened to "po." Bueno, para los que han leído "Los de abajo," se utiliza "pos" casi cada frase" jaja.
