convirtir is not in the dictionary. I have seen it used a lot in the sports section, especially with the mundial. e.g. Italia se convirtio en la gran estrella indiscutible...

The verb is "convertir", later the declination makes it "convirtió"
Yo me convertí en elefante I convert/shaped? myself in an elephant
Tu te convertiste en elefante
El se convirtió
Nosotros nos convertimos
Vosostros os convertisteis
Ellos se convirtieron.

no, that is a different verb. convirtir means to pull off or convert.

I agree with sosia on this. It's convertir and the e changes to i in some conjugations as already mentioned.
