Hello all,

It is my first post :)

I want your thoughts on this:
Do you feel that because your parents may have supported you when you were younger, that you "owe" it to them to support them now?

(Pay the bills they run up etc, just because they did it for you when you were younger and unable to work)

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums Morutea. I think it depends on the situation. I certainly want to help my parents when they come to a place of needing help. Realistically that will be just spending time with them when they need it.

If your parents have financial needs, I think it would be ok to help. What is your situation?

BTW, I don't think you should do it for obligation. You should do it out of love.

I agree it should be done out of love. That would coincide with biblical principles. Personally, I wouldn't pay for any debt they have created out of carelessness or greed. But if they need an hand up once in a while, a proper response would be to help them out.

Hello!
For me, to have a child, give him support, education and so on it's a duty of the fathers. They want to have them and they must take care for them.
¿You owe them somethig? It depends on what the have give you.
Have they give you care, attention, and look for you, you should give the same.
Time is usually more important than money. If you have money, you have to give it too, but only in order to help them, not to maintain them (not speaking of grammas of 95 who have nothing). It also deppends of your financial situation.

Basically I agree with Tomisimo and HALOE BOY. If they make you as an investion, then perhaps they should have go to the stock exchange. But if they are in a temporary bad time, you must help them.

"If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied his faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

(1 Timothy 5: 8)

I'm not Christian or anything, just that I spent this morning doing a religious studies exam so all that stuff's fresh in my mind.

Personally I would do anything for my parents because I love them to bits, but really it depends on what kind of your relationship you have with them. I suppose if they mistreated you as a child I could understand why you wouldn't be so glad to support them so I think it depends on your situation.

i guess it would depend on the situation, i mean personally i would do anything for my parents. i think that it should be done out of love not just a feeling that you owe it to them.
