Direct and Indirect Objects Word Order

Hi,

I'm a mid-beginner Spanish student (currently teaching myself, because school's out).

I'm really overwhelmed by the order of direct and indirect objects. With all the dang le's and te's and se's, it gets REALLY confusing REALLY fast.

Subject + Indirect Object + Direct Object + Verb

^Is this the right word order?

Technically, such a rigid rule won't always serve you well, but what you wrote is correct (if you're talking about the object pronouns, which is what I suppose you meant to write).

In Spanish, the subject doesn't have to precede the verb.
If you don't list it, the order is IOP + DOP + Verb.

When the verb is in the infinitive or the imperative, however, the object pronouns are suffixed to the verb and an accent marks the stressed syllable in the verb. In this case, the order is verb+IOP+DOP.

the subject can go before or after the verb.
the pronouns

the indirect object pronoun should come before the direct object pronoun, if you have both.
the pronouns (in the correct order) go directly before conjugated verbs, or directly after verbs in the infinitive or present participle.
the indirect object pronouns "le" and "les" change to "se" when followed by a direct object pronoun.

Remember that in Spanish the IO is usually duplicated:

Me lo dio a mí
¿Te contó a ti toda la historia?
