Can anybody provide an example in English with the word apuntalar, which according to the Dictionary means SHore up or brace?

I have not heard shore up, it's not very common. Perhaps it's used alot in the construction business, personally I don't know:)

To shore up is a rough synonym for to brace, although it's probably not in everyone's vocabulary, unless you work in construction.
