Accented capitals. Is Spanish like French in this respect?

Can one write "Él" or "El" for "he" ? Are they both correct?

Historically, accents were not required on capital letters due to physical restrictions with typeface (or something like that). Current thought seems to prefer accenting all letters that need it, even if it is a capital letter. (That's my personal preference as well).

(El) Espero que (él) gane la lotería.
(Yo) Espero ganar (yo) la lotería. (Instead of "Espero que (yo) gane la lotería.)
Concerning this example.... I intended the first sentence to illustrate the use of an "el" conjugation, and the second a "yo" conjugation. That's why I preceded the sentences with the markers "(El)" and "(Yo)". They weren't supposed to be part of the actual sentence. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :(

Tienes razón. Debe ser "Érase una vez".
