I have a question about these 2 spanish sentences

Why does one of these sentences use "se" and the other "fue". Both sentences say object "was" blah blah blah....

Esta foto "se" saco en 1982.
Esta torta "fue" hecha para nuestra boda.

Why cant the first sentence use "fue"?

"Se sacó" is an impersonal, like saying "one took this picture in 1982".
This way of building impersonal sentences is very commonly used in Spanish.

The second sentence is passive voice. "The cake was made for our wedding."
Passive voice is much less common in Spanish than in English.


To make the first sentence in passive voice, you should say:

Esta foto fue tomada en 1982.
("Sacada" in this case doesn't sound so good.)

The answer is already in my first post. I realized I hadn't actually answered the question, so I edited it before watching your reply.

But past participle of "sacar" is "sacado", not "saco". In this case "sacada", because it's a feminin, but for reasons of style I prefer "tomada".

En teoría, «esta foto fue sacada en 1933». (Foto es la abreviación de fotografía.) Pero como Angelica mencionó, se usa el verbo «tomar» por lo general en este caso, así «tomada» no «sacada».
