I have a question based on another thread here (http://forums.tomisimo.org/showthread.php?t=664). The word is overlooking. My dictionary doesn't have it, but it has overlook = mirar desde lo alto, dominar, pasar por alto etc. The meaning I want is like if a house is overlooking the main square in a town, how would you say that in Spanish?

I would use dominar (control)
"El ayuntamiento domina la calle principal"
"El castillo domina sobre el valle"
You're saying that the house/castle controls visually all the street/valley.
"Vimos el valle desde el mirador"
Mirador it's a place where you can see all the valley (it controls visually all the street/valley), but it's not a building, so it doesn't implies "Dominar" (to control)
Hope this helps :D

Hola Nopp...
He tenido la oportunidad de tener que traducir esa palabra anteriormente y desafortunadamente no hay una sola palabra en Espanol que uno pueda usar para el significado que tu buscas. He usado, por ejemplo:
The house overlooks the ocean.....La casa tiene vistas al oceano.
Pero tambien como dice Sosia se puede usar ya que es lo mas correcto.
