In the Tomísimo dictionary, are the conjugations for reír and sonreír correct in the preterit? Shouldn't they have accents except in the 3rd person plural and no "y's" in the 3rd person?
reí
reíste
rió (no y?)
reímos
reísteis
rieron (no y?)
sonreí
sonreíste
sonrió (no y?)
sonreímos
sonreísteis
sonrieron (no y?)

Conjugation is wrong all over, but I don't understand the question about "y".
yo reí
tú reíste
él rió
nosotros reímos
vosotros reísteis
ustedes/ellos rieron
yo sonreí
tú sonreíste
él sonrió
nosotros sonreímos
vosotros sonreísteis
ustedes/ellos sonrieron

The Tomisimo dictionary has "y's" in the third person singular & plural preterit. I was asking if they shouldn't be there. (I didn't think so....). :?::?::?:

I take it you mean the conjugation is correct, not wrong. :D Talk about confusion. Is it possible that a y is an archaic spelling? (Like BrE preterite :D)

No, I think that it's incorrect all over for reír and sonreír .... look at the present indicative ... and the subjunctive. I think those are all incorrect, too....

No need to beat your head against a wall. Angelica and I often comment back and forth on little things like that that need to be fixed... she knew I would know what she meant.... :)

@Perikles: She asked if the conjugation in the Tomisimo Dictionary was correct... I expected her to see her own conjugation was. :D
@Lou Ann: I only saw "ii" (incorrect too), but no "y".
Oh well... I'll tell David about this. :)

Now we're all confusing each other. I missed the "ii" thing, and thought that both "reír" and "sonreír" had the same "y" error. Whew! Now I think that we're all on the same page.... :)
Add to the list of "reír"-like verbs that need fixed:
desleír
engreír
freír
sofreír
sonreír

sonreírI need to learn them as well. New to me, except sonreír. Is there a significant correlation between -ir verbs and cookery?:rolleyes:
