Según si es primero (º) o primera (ª), etc.

1º - 1ª
2º - 2ª
3º - 3ª
etc.

Segundo piso, primera puerta : 2º - 1ª

I love this thread. I could never figure out what these things signified when I saw them written in Spanish. Someone had written 2ª something, and I was SO confused. Now it makes PERFECT sense ... and, YES, it is SO much easier than our English! THANKS!!!

Oh - THAT is good to know, too! Because I wouldn't want people to laugh at me like I laughed at my British friend looking for the button on the elevator........ :D

Just like you do in English, joining the number with the last letters of the word, Bob: :)

1st - 1er (primer) / 1ro (primero)
2nd - 2do (segundo)
3rd - 3er (tercer) / 3ro (tercero)
