Quote from Luis here (http://forums.tomisimo.org/showpost.php?p=4025&postcount=4).

>>> Es un adjetivo gentilicio se refiere a una persona nacida en Panama.

I'm wondering exactly what gentilicio means. The dictioanry here translates it as national, gentile, tribal & hereditary. But how & when exactly is it used. I've never heard it before. If anyone can help out that would be great. Also , does it come from the word gente?

gentilicio & gente comes from latin: gens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gens)

Gentilicio it's a word who explains the name of the people of a place/country/city
Madrileño/a es el gentilicio de Madrid
Barcelonés/a es el gentilicio de Barcelona
Panameño/a es el gentilicio de Panamá
Mexicano/a es el gentilicio de México.

To know the proper "gentilicio" of a place it's not very easy.

And from the English version of the Wikipedia page:

A demonym or gentilic is a word that denotes the members of a people or the inhabitants of a place.

Ok thanks for the info. I think the English versions of this word aren't very commonly used. :)

Thanks!
