I have seen in Tomísimo, "la madeja se enreda". But to me in Spanish, it should be something of the order "la historia se pone más interesante" o "empieza a enredarse". Any ideas?

La madeja se empieza a poner más y más interesante.

La historia se pone más (y más) interesante/substanciosa/jugosa.
