Good Morning Poli....
According to Wikipedia........
Pinoy is a demonym (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demonym) used by Filipinos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filipino_people) for their compatriots in the Philippines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippines) and around the world. Filipinos usually refer to themselves informally as Pinoy or some times feminine: Pinay, which is formed by taking the last four letters of the word 'Filipino' and adding the diminutive suffix -y.

Thanks Elaina!
a little history in the word Pinoy. Pinoy was/is used by Manongs (early Filipino settlers in America & Hawaii)(Mano/ang=big brother/sister) to instill pride and to identify themselves as Filipinos. Filipinos, when they first came to the USA they worked the fields of California and the canneries of Alaska. through out this they faced racism against Whites and other ethnic minorities. either at work, outside of work and even at school. there is more but later...:)

It sounds like the plight of the Filipinos has been very similar to the plight of the Hispanics/Latinos.
I don't know why race or color or national origin is something that comes to the forefront of everything. We are all human beings and that is what is important.
Variety adds spice to life.
Elaina;)
