These are dummies used in "car sound engineering" to test what the person is going to hear when he/she is [they are] driving.
I take that some kind of "dummy run" with the noise of the motor, the wind... or whatever sounds you'll get in a car... and whatever sound proof materials you use to make sure that inside your car you don't get all the other noise and just hear your 'sound system'...
Maybe this is a bit specialized (or maybe I am not very acquainted with the subject) but "binaural" even if I cannot find it in DRAE, would be a loose synonym for "stereo", right?
DRAE does give,
monoaural.
(De mono-, el lat. auris, oreja, y -al).
1. adj. Dicho de un sistema de grabación y reproducción sonora: Realizado a través de un solo canal.
My question here is if I say "usamos maniquís binaurales para hacer pruebas de sonido en el diseño del interior de nuestros coches"... would that be understood?
Is it better if I say, "usamos maniquís que registran/graban en estéreo, para determinar lo que el conductor oirá mientras conduce..."?
As you-sual, I mean usual, ur views, I mean, your views, will be appreciated! ;) :)
