English to Spanish:

How would you say "gate" as in a gate on a fence?

If you could use it in a sentence that would be great.

Such as " Don't forget to close the gate when you leave!"

Portón, is the word you're looking for.

For me, it "portón" or "puerta" should be clear enough.
I've seen that the DRAE has "barrera" as some sort of synonym for "compuerta", but I have never heard it used that way.

I've heard Verja used to say "Protect" so I can see how gate and protect closely relate. Thanks! :)

"Verja" can be used for a window and for a gate, although for a window it is more common "reja". :)

En Chile también se usa "verja".

¿Entiendes lo de portón como verja o es un término nuevo?
