How can I say "arrancar información". I'm not sure extracting or pulling out information convey clearly and univocally the violent intervention -threatens, torture, etc.- involved in "arrancar".

To extract information (never pulling out) does suggest some violence for me, as does extracting teeth, by the virtue of the Latin, literally to drag out

How about a figurative translation like "to exact information"?

you can also glean information, which is devoid of force.

Thank you guys!

:duh: I used pull out thinking it was stronger than extract.

The verb exact is new to me. We have in Spanish the word "exacción" meaning a sum or goods exacted as payment, in an unfair fashion and maybe in a violent way. It looks good but I'm afraid that "exact information" is ambiguous, at least when I'm writing English "with an accent".

The verb glean is also new to me. I used "harvest" information or similar concepts, but I now see this verb is more adequate in most -if not all- cases.

Thank you again.
