I often hear *hacer una decisión and *tomar un paso instead of tomar una decisión and dar un paso from Americans learning Spanish.

Good ones. They would make a spanish speaker confused, at least (s)he would grin...
I would repair by saying 'hacernos una decision' 'conseguir una decision' Tomar un paso does not sound so deviant, tomar and dar are fairly polysemic, a bit like get and come (for example) Tomar una medida pops out Toma y daca (give and take) |

I call you back- Te llamo luego. "Va a correr para presidente" -He's going to run for President- Va a lanzar su candidatura a la presidencia. "Necesitamos una josa para rociar la yarda" -We need a hose to water the yard- Necesitamos una manguera para regar el césped. "Fowardéame ese email" -To forward an email- Enviar a un tercero un correo electrónico Saludos ![]() EL quijote in spanglish

Te llamo para atras sounds very funny, as in 'I'll call you speaking backwards'
Va a correr para presidente, the mental image is a horserace, definitely. Good, good, this is fun ![]() ![]() ![]() |

English influence in Spanish has left some expressions that are indiscriminatedly used everywhere in the media and are beginning to be accepted by the public...
"Hacer un error" instead of "cometer un error" "Pasar una ley" instead of "aprobar una ley" "Escanear un documento" instead of "digitalizar un documento" "Me hizo el día" instead of "me alegró el día" "Violencia de género" instead of "violencia doméstica" And rather in vocabulary issues: "Género" instead of "sexo" "Empoderar" instead of "facultar" ...however, if you can keep your students from making those mistakes, the old-fashioned ones like me would appreciate it. ![]()
