Thank you, Tomisimo. In spite of this is correct, I will try to use other words like capable to enrich my vocabulary.

An easier way of saying to be able to is the use of the verb poder(no puedo por ejemplo)

So, If I said: "I cannot do that, not because I am not able, but because I do not want to do it..." It would be a badly constructed sentence? I am asking because I have read and heard that, way too many times during my work experience in this country. |

Could you help us with this? |

I would offer:-
Saber hacer - know how to (conducir, nadar, tocar la guitarra etc) Capaz de hacer - have the strength or moral disposition towards doing, (José es muy violento, es capaz de mater a caulquiera). Poder hacer - nothing to impede from doing (eg podemos ir al cine, buscar empleo, poner la tele, etc). Last edited by Sancho Panther; March 04, 2009 at 05:22 AM. |

Puedo entender=I can understand. A synonymn for I can = I am able to.
In fact the infinitive of can is to be able to. As you know to can is not English.
