Carnicería
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for August 30, 2009
carnicería (feminine noun (la)) — butcher shop. Look up carnicería in the dictionary ¿Puedes ir a la carnicería para comparar carne molida? Can you go to the butcher shop to buy some ground beef?

And something else: In England people speak of minced meat, and in Spain we say carne picada.

"Ropa vieja" is the dish (once it's cooked in a tomato and vegetables sauce)... when it's only boiled and shredded, it's called "carne deshebrada".

Machaca is a specialty from the North of Mexico. It's meat (usually beef) that is very finely pulled apart (much more so than carne deshebrada), pounded to death, and then dried. It is then reconstituted and used in various dishes. Machaca can refer to the meat or one of several dishes prepared with it.

@Tacuba: As David said, "carne deshebrada" is fresh boiled and shredded meat and "machaca" is finely shredded dried meat.
@Bob: Places where they sell fish are called "pescaderías".
