¿Con qué sentido quieres la traducción?
Literalmente, se puede decir "me inclino a ti" (aka namaste). También, se dice "me quito el sombrero (antes ti)" o "me rindo a ti" (ése con el sentido de ser vencido y aquél, con el sentido de asombro). Last edited by Rusty; April 11, 2009 at 10:19 PM. |

I should have been more clear to the context.
"I bow to you" is the meaning of the word "Namaste" so i guess "me inclino a ti" is the correct translation. |

Raji, soy estudiante de Samkhya-Vedanta o Vishishthadwaita, y creo que para transmitir la letra y el espíritu de "I bow to you" en el contexto de tu cultura---y no visto por un lente Eurocentrista---"bow" se refiere a un sentimiento o genuflexión ante el reconocimiento de Presencia Divina, o Dios/Diosa, en el/la otra(o). Considero que para transmitir ese nivel de honra por el "otro" como sujeto/Sujeto en las lenguas matizadas por culturas materialistas tenemos que hacer uso de algún arcaísmo.
Mi objeción a "me inclino" es que únicamente representa el equivalente a la postura física y no al sentir de adoración espiritual que mueve el "I bow...". Esta inclinación es mucho más que bajar la cabeza e inclinarse de la cintura para arriba. Es más como postrarse... ¿y qué occidental se postra en estos días? En este caso sugiero: Me postro ante ti... Espero que estemos tratando una frase en un poema... Recuerda que para traducir hay que entrar en el espíritu de la connotación, y para eso hay que conocer las posibilidades de una lengua (lenguas modernasa muy limitadas cuando se enferntan a términos del sánscrito) en el contexto de otra cultura, filosofía, epistemología, y ontología. Muy interesante. El ser básico entiende... por lo menos algo. Quizá con un poco más de contexto te podamos ayudar mejor, pero creo que las diversas aportaciones hasta ahora te dan opciones claras... Sin ánimo de complicar las cosas, te apunto algunas opciones si quieres considerarlas: "Rindo la frente ante ti" (poético, menos connotación de "pleitesía" que "postrarse" pero con un matiz como el que indica AUM "Rendirse ante ti" (similar, algo más en el sentido de "ofrendar" culto, adoración, gracias...) Reverenciar, doblegarse, arrodillarse... son otras opciones "Me hinco de hinojos ante ti" es más literario, donde "de hinojos" indica "de rodillas". En otro contexto (como el japonés) y tal vez otro sentido de respeto distinto, es, "retiro mi fétido aliento" pero eso es otra historia... "Agachar" o "doblar la cerviz" es parecido a "postrarse" pero tal vez con un sentido de sumisión o hasta de "humillación" más marcado... En fin... tras escribir todo esto, "Me postro ante ti" creo que puede ser la mejor opción... una vez más, dependiendo del contexto... Salu2!
