La frase en cuestión es del libro Tinta invisible de Javier Peña.

Cuando Caravaggio pintó David con la testa de Goliat se dibujó a sí mismo de joven como David y a sí mismo maduro como la cabeza cercenada del gigante. Creo que los escritores somos como Caravaggio. Escriba de lo que escriba, un escritor se escribe siempre a sí mismo.

Does "un escritor se escribe siempre a sí mismo" mean se escribe de/sobre si mismo, i.e. writes about himself/herself?
