The meaning of: Coadjutor

I ran across a title that is not clear to me - a position in the Catholic Church. The word is: Coadjutor. It was used in the following sentence:

“... fue nombrado Coadjutor del Obispo de León, Monseñor don Emeterio Valverde y Télez.

It's the same in English. See here (but I can't be bothered to try to understand)

coadjutor bishop (In the Roman Catholic Church, an assistant -auxiliary bishop- having also the right to succession to the episcopal see -bishop seat-)

Thank you for the response. I thought I knew the positions in the Catholic Church. Obviously I don't.
