"Darse de alta" means to sign up, and it's an action you do yourself.
And "dar de alta" means to discharge someone from a hospital, because they're better. Someone else (a doctor) does it for you. ![]() - Me di de alta ayer. -->I signed up yesterday. - Me dieron de alta ayer. -->I was discharged from hospital (by them).
