I know, but in Spanish you have to guess from the context, because there's no better translation for to eavesdrop.Well, there is escuchar a escondidas, fisgonear, husmear... but you don't use them with this meaning.

Dependiendo del contexto, usaría escuchar, posiblemente con más de una explicación:
escuchaba (cuando no debía) escuchó clandestinamente Otra opción que podría funcionar bien en algunos casos es espiar. Les espiaba y escuchaba su conversación. Also listen in is partially synonymous to eavesdrop, but don't always have the same negative connotation.

Por eso el uso de los libros y diccionarios es importante pero no es un substituto por la interacción. Husmear y fisgonear= to snoop en inglés que es una palabra que significa eavesdrop pero menos formal.

Si era ver y oir. Los dos tiene algo que ver con eavesdropping. A mi tambien me gustan las obras de Allende. Puedo leer sus libros en español sin perder el sentido.

Can I use these words for say: Yo husmeo el refrigerador. I eavesdrog the cooler. Fisgoneo mi cartera. I eavesdrog my wallet.
