The sentence in question is making use of the pronoun uno.
In the second "sentence," un is the apocopation of uno, which is a determiner, and you need to provide the object to complete the sentence.

uno nuevo = una nueva = a new one
un nuevo ... = a new ... ("el" noun)
una nueva ... = a new ... ("la" noun)

Hello BobRitter:
As "Rusty" said, in this case you need to use "uno".
"Un" is indefinite only used when you don't specify the object.
