I'm aware of those critiques and I think the case is just applicable to Argentina and little more. Shumway doesn't propose that as causal. It's just a factor integrante (something that allows us to sum up the historical flow). In fact, the Argentina's richness in conflicts departs from those myths being just hollow myths.

Perhaps you may found in the memories of having being driven nuts by myths that have nothing yo do with the question why about half of Argentina's population -a changing half- feels the way it feels at a any given historical time.
