Asegurar vs. asegurarse (to make sure)

Hola todos... he preguntado sobre esta frase por algún tiempo ...

¿Como se dice "make sure" en español? ¿Se usa asegurar o asegurarse? Por ejemplo, traduciendo esta oración:

She makes sure they have enough food.

Debe ser ...

(Ella) Asegura que tienen suficiente comida.

Ó ...

(Ella) Se asegura que tienen suficiente comida.
