Oración en / de ?
I promise, this is my last question regarding Bécquer?s „El Monte De Las Ánimas“.
I know what „oración“ means (in this case „prayer“), and who the „Templarios“ were. The text I am talking about is : „Dentre de poco sonará la oración en los Templarios…“ Studying three literary translations of the story I got confused, because two of them ( the German and the Romanian one) say „Templars prayer“. The English translation doesn’t mention the Templars. My question: a) should I understand Templarios as a location, chapel etc. or b) is the meaning Templars prayer? (la oración de los Templarios)? I am really embarrassed for abusing your time. Last edited by Constantin; June 07, 2023 at 06:11 AM. |

«Dentro de poco sonará la oración de los Templarios ...» Perhaps the English translator didn't want to "rewrite" what looked wrong. |

I see. Thank you for the prompt reply. I understood that "oración en los Templarios" and "oración de los Templarios" are both correct and have the same meaning. I am relieved now.

At first I thought there might have been a typo, but the original does say "Dentro de poco sonará la oración en los Templarios", so this is not an error.
Later in the text, Alonso says: "¿Oyes? Las campanas doblan, la oración ha sonado en San Juan del Duero..." In this context, "la oración" is the worship service for the deceased, the bells toll in the church to make the faithful attend the mass. For me, "sonará la oración en los Templarios" means that bells calling to mass will be heard from the monastery where the Templars are buried, signaling that they're coming to life again, or that the call for prayer will raise them from their tombs. If we say "...la oración de los Templarios", it's them who are praying, but then we know they're actually fighting. ![]() Bécquer is not an easy author to read, so keep asking questions if you need to. We're glad to help. ![]()
