The use of "per se" in english
Hello
I am trying to bridge this concept from English to Spanish: the use of "per se" ( I know that's actually borrowed from latin or italian). For example: "....I'm not wealthy per se I just happened to invest in the right stocks at the right time." Or, "...I'm not an alcoholic per se, I just rely on a few drinks to get through the day..." How might these two examples be expressed in (Latino) spanish? |

It's translated as: de por sí
No soy rico/a, de por sí, ...

The phrase 'per se' (Latin for 'in itself') can also be translated en sí mismo.

Hi Conejodescarado,
Quote:
1. En español los errores no se "hacen" sino que se "cometen" 2. Tu frase entre paréntesis suena muy extraña 3. En español uno no "deja saber" sino que "hace saber". 3. "De modo que" requiere el uso del subjuntivo Dicho esto, la frase entera debe ser: Si cometo errores (o digo algo que suene muy extraño), házmelo saber de modo que pueda entender y aprender, gracias. Espero haberte sido de ayuda. Entre todos aprenderemos. Have a nice day!! - Last edited by Luna Azul; March 29, 2011 at 08:47 PM. |

Completamente de acuerdo. Con la influencia del inglés, cada vez más personas dicen "hacer errores", aunque nuestros padres y abuelos nunca hubieran usado esa expresión.
