Según va continuando la gira....

"Según va continuando la gira por la planta, las condiciones de trabajo se vuelven cada vez más primitivas"

My translation:
"Continuing the tour through the plant, the working conditions become more and more primitive"

I understand the intent of the sentence, but the use of "Según va continuando" has me confused.
