...forgotten past something had come sliding down from the stars, and the little town had vanished in a spinning tower of flame.
(from Transcience, by Arthur C. Clarke)

How would you translate "spinning tower of flame" into Spanish?

(Is the book referred already translated somewhere?)

What about "una arremolinada torre de llamas"?
"una torre de llamas que se arremolinaban"?
"una tromba de llamas"?
"un tornado de llamas"?

I think tromba el llamas sounds good.
How about tromba ardiente
or torre girante ardiente

Thank you, Poli, I take you meant "tromba en llamas" or "tromba de llamas".
"Tromba ardiente" sounds okay too... but maybe something like "una descomunal torre de fuego" "una gigantesca torre ígnea/incandescente" (maybe a bit more pedantic...)

I would expect to read "en un torbellino de fuego que ascendía hasta perderse en los cielos". Spanish is more action-friendly and not object-friendly ("a tower...") because we can't play with the verbal adjective "spinning", and a dependent clause with que is expected.

¡Genial, AleCcowan! :applause:

Me encanta tu forma de expresarlo... en especial el término "torbellino".

Muchas gracias.
