Secuelas means consequence. As a consequence... :thinking: :)
It's commonly used about illness: la enfermedad le produjo abundantes secuelas.

secuela = consequence; las secuelas de la guerra the consequences o effects of the war; las secuelas que deja la enfermedad the aftereffects o (formal) sequelae of the illness
Por las secuelas... = due to the effects...
