I have a debate with another cohort who believes 'drug and alcohol classes' should be written as 'clases para alcohol y drogas' but that sounds like classes to invite yourself to hit bottom or imbibe on alcoholic drinks...

when another way to say it (hopefully I'm correct?) is 'las clases por alcohol y drogas' or 'las clases sobre alcohol y drogas'

Any one have any input, who have learned spanish as their native tongue, or who have lived in a foreign country and immersed themselves there? thanks! :)

you shoud use
"tipos de drogas y bebidas alcohólicas " or "clases DE drogas y bebidas alcohólicas"
"Alcohol", in spanish, sounds medical. We say "bebidas alcohólicas" or simply "bebidas"

"La policía capturó a los narcotraficantes, que tenían un almacén lleno de armas y varios tipos de drogas y bebidas"

"En la farmacia almacenan varias clases de drogas, todas para uso medicinal...."

Saludos :D

The problem is the English name for the course (drugs and alcohol class) is
poor. It should be called drug and alcohol abuse class or better yet: discourses on the abuse of drugs and alcoholic beverages.
In Spanish: dicursos sobre el abuso de drogas y bebidas alcólicas.

Spanish speakers: ¿estoy en lo cierto?
¿es mejor decir "sobre el abuso de las drogas y las bebidas ...?"

Correcto.

I agree with the above answers.
Also, "Clases sobre la Droga y el Alcohol" (in singular, as a subject) would be an option.

Just as a note, depending on the context, it could be "Tipos de drogas y de bebidas alcohólicas" as noted by Sosia, but that is not necessarily a "class" as "a lesson" in a course room, it could be just the title of a paper, or a section or chapter of a written work.
