Agree with Chileno...
"Se me ha dado una segunda oportunidad en la vida" seems pretty standard.

We say here "me ha sido dada una segunda oportunidad en la vida" because "se me ha dado ..." has a strong "by chance" component:

Este año se ha dado bien la espinaca.
Tuve muchos negocios malhadados, pero esta vez con los lavaderos se me dio.

For Argentina:
"(no) me ha sido dado" ----> sort of godlike, kinda 'God giveth and God taketh away'
"(no) se me ha dado" ----> sort of a stroke of luck (misfortune)

:thinking:Ok, forgive me for my slow understanding of the word "se". It is one of those words that has given me more trouble than I expected. So, in this case you would use "se" because a specific person or thing that gave me a second chance is not stated.

Would it be correct to say, "Dios me ha dado una segunda oportunidad en la vida" for "God has given me a second chance in life"?

¡Gracias por la ayuda!

So, in this case you would use "se" because a specific person or thing that gave me a second chance is not stated. Yes, this is a case of an impersonal sentence. :)

:lol::lol:. I figured you would reply Angelica. You have help me with this word more times than I'd care to admit. But I think I'm beginning to comprehend it a little more. Thanks a bunch!

Se agradece. = Es de agradecer. = Uno lo agradece.
