Hey!

I'm 17 year old native English speaker from Australia. I've been learning Spanish for 'four and a half years', but as it turns out, the teacher I had for the first three years knew absolutely nothing about Spanish and taught us close to nothing. So, I have about a year and a half's knowledge of the language. I wound up at this forum by googling for some homework help, and I figured it'd be a great way to improve my Spanish.

¡Hola!

Soy australiano, y Inglés es mi primera idioma. Tengo diecesiete años. Estudio Español para 'cuatro y media años', pero el profesor que tuve para los primeros tres años no sabia (sabió?) nada sobre Español y nos enseñaba cerca de nada. Entonces, yo sé aproximadamente uno y media años de la lengua. Busco este forum porque estaba googleando para ayudar, y pensé que podría mejorar mi español.

Thanks a lot for your replies, guys, it makes me feel welcome. As a matter of fact, I have read quite a few threads already, and although I haven't replied to them, I've learned quite a lots.

Gracias por sus respuestas, amigos, me hace sentir bienvenido aquí. [As a matter of fact], I'm not sure of a translation of this phrase..., leí muchos [threads], the translator tells me that it is hilo but I this would refer to a thread of string or something..., y aunque no les respondí, aprendí muchos

"As a matter of fact" could be translated as "de hecho".

"Hilo" or "tema" are fine in forums. Usually you find "tema" in Spanish forums, but peole can also say "hilo". It might be a literal translation from the English "thread". But we also use "hilo" in a similar way.

Perdí el hilo de la conversación - I lost the thread of the conversation.
