Sometimes I hear su used by kids to refer to their parents. But other times, I hear tu being used. Does this depend in where you are? Or are the kids using tu being a little disrespectful?

It depends on the culture, the region and the parents.
"Tú" can be perceived as a closer and more affectionate relationship, while "usted" is meant to be respectful and for some ears it may sound rather distanced.
This doesn't mean that children using "tú" love more their parents than those using "usted" though. :)

That makes alot of sense. You would talk to your parents differently than you would a stranger. Thank you for clearing this up for me.
