Lo he visto.

¿Qué piensan ustedes?

When is a person too old to learn another language?

The other day I was talking to a girl who is around 27 years old more or less.
She asked me if she was too old to learn another language.
(In this case Spanish.) And I had to laugh a lot. Two of the best students
I have ever known in my life are 70 and 68 years old. It's never too late to
learn a second language. And depending on the person and good learning methods
it is possible to eliminate or suppress the accent of the first language. I've seen it.

What do you all think about this?

There probably is a point where someone becomes "too old" - if we include persons who are becoming doddery anyway and having trouble following instructions in the native language.

I'm in my mid 40s and have spent about 3 months reading Spanish on the weekends and listening to CDs in my car. I feel like I'm better at it now than after two years of classes back in high school. It is the difference between "trying to learn" versus just sitting there waiting for the bell.

Definitely if the motivation is there you will learn. The expression goes you can't teach an old dog trucos nevos, and there is always some truth in clichés, but there are always so many exceptions.

There is really no such thing as "too old" to learn, as long as the person in question is lucid.

You might no be lucid at 25 years of age, for all that matter. :)

Then again, the fact that a person is not "lucid" might not be enough to prevent "acquiring" a new language, right?

The only requierement for learning another language
is that you already know one language.
