A / con question

In this sentence:
"¿A cómo está el queso?
- ___ siete euros ___ ochenta céntimos."
The answers are: 1) A/y 2) A/con 3) Por/y 4) Por/con
The correct answers is A/con, it's not possible to say A/y? I thought either A/y or A/con are correct. Is this a mistake?

"Y" would be understood in context, but feels awkward, because the conjunction here rather gives the idea of separate quantities. :thinking:


I think the only case when "y" and "con" can be used with a number without altering the meaning is when you tell the hour.

- Son las cinco con diez (minutos). = Son las cinco y diez.

1) when you say time; Es la una y media; Son las dos y diez, etc., you could use either y or con (when you use con, it implies minutos after the number).
2) when you say prices; Siete euros con diez (céntimos) (can I omit céntimo?), you usually use con and not y.
