According to this page on wiktionary (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/de_vez_en_cuando), they mean the same thing. Another synonym is "a veces".

I don't recall hearing or reading "de cuando en cuando" before; I've generally heard and used "de vez en cuando" and "a veces".

Me too, never saw de cuando en cuando until now, we learn something every day.
