Hi everyone. I'm struggling with a translation from Spanish to English, and wonder if any of you can help me with ''examen de detenciones'' in the following context. Also, I'll appreciate if you can check out my translation.

Carnage is a very strong word because it means ''matanza'' or ''carnicería''. I think the author here refers to ''human vicissitudes. What do you think about it?

Sin contexto, yo diría que en principio la elección de palabras es más bien incoherente, pero tal vez se refiera a cada pintura como una "detención", una pausa en el examen que presenta Olazábal en la colección. (?)


Yo diría "detailed review", si es el caso.

I wasn't sure of the context either, but I very much prefer the word folly. as in human folly, over vicissitudes.
Olazábel examine human folly beautifully with unique conceptual focus. Thought use of different media he manages to give a touch of distinction to the human condition.

This is not a complete translation. I don't know who Olázabel is; nor do I know his work. but perhaps I got the gist of the statement.

@Poli: The problem with "folly" is that you give the word a charge of meaning that is not present in the word "avatar" in Spanish. Here it's just a transformation, and it's up to the public to judge whether those changes are good or bad. :thinking:


@Cubanboy: ¿"Examination" en vez de "analysis"? En mi opinión, "analysis" implica más que un cuestionamiento. :thinking:
