So far in my clases and books when responding to someone you only ever deal with the main subject and you do not bring up different subjects. I am wondering if this is done only to keep things simple or is it part of the language?

For example:
"¿Es intelligente el doctor?" is met with
"Si, el doctor es Intelligente."

But can I shorten my response and add to the sentence like I would in English?
"No, pero el doctor es muy barato"

Books and classes have their agenda. Spoken language can go any way you'd like it.

So far, in my classes and books, when responding to someone you only ever deal with the main subject and you do not bring up different subjects. I am wondering if this is done only to keep things simple or is it part of the language?

For example:
"¿Es inteligente el doctor?" is met with
"Sí, el doctor es inteligente."

But can I shorten my response and add to the sentence like I would in English?
"No, pero (el doctor) es muy barato."
