Where did you come from?

I don't mean what country are you from. I'm mainly looking for how to say come from, but I thought I'd give a sentence for context.

venir de (usually in the sense of having a direction in mind)

¿De dónde viniste? = Where did you come from?

salir de (usually with no direction in mind)

¿De dónde saliste? = Where did you pop up from?

So if you were asking someone what location they came from, you would use venir?
