Here is a phrase from Tintin comic book.
CONTEXT: They are walking up a long winding path towards a river.
PHRASE: Haddock va a la cabeza con un minuto de adelanto sobre el peloton.

a strange way to say this in Spanish: Haddock is one minute ahead -closer to the river- of the main group of trekkers
It seems to me you're coming across a lot of on-line non-professional translations. In Tintin's case, not sure whether from French or English.

Is it possible that my comic book is full of incorrect Spanish phrases?
I pulled that phrase straight out of the comic book itself.

Not necessarily. It is possible that current translations are made by lazy translators. However, since they are addressed to a certain public, it is possible that what sounds as a calque from the foreign language is generally adopted by the people who are reading them.
On the other hand, comic book translations usually reflect the colloquial language of the region where they're being sold, and then what is incorrect for one speaker is common language for another.
