Yes, these expressions seem rather common to me.

And widely used. Pretty natural, from my viewpoint.

Different contexts, though

tener en común (lista de cosas en común) = they share (e.g. their passion for ...)

tener algo en común (a single something: on one hand, a property, a kid; on the other hand, something abstract, like being phlegmatic, or being passionate about cars)

tener cosas en común (a list of things: on one hand, goods and relatives; on the other hand, a shared history)

tener mucho en común (to share many interests or have similar traits)
