Más alla

I these two words are used a lot together in Spanish, but I'm not completelty comfortable about using them myself. Can someone provide me with a definition?

más allá
= further away
= further beyond
= further on

el más allá = the afterlife

Thanks Rusty. The second defintition is this one that translates best in many of the newspaper article that I read. Come to think of it, I may never have never tried to use a Spanish equivalent of the word beyond, and más alla seems to be one poplularly used, at least among journalists.

Does "mas alla" only refer to physical location? Or could it be used for ideology, too? (If you were making a point, and then made another point further beyond your first point....)

It can also mean just "beyond":

Más allá de la tienda. = Beyond the store.
