I was able to deduce that it means the proverbial to go overboard or to go beyond the level of acceptability. Could it ever be used in a positive way? example: Ella cantó tan claramente que pasó de regular. Ganará fama por todo el mundo:thinking:

I'm not 100% sure, but I would venture that pasar de regular meas to be better than normal.

No pasaba de regular = It was no better than usual
Pasó de regular = It was better than expected

You mean to tell me, that "overboard" is always negative? :-^)

You are right though with your example.

Pasó de regular = It was better than expected

Pasó de regular, could be used both ways, however like Tomisimo hints at, by itself, it could mean good or bad depending of the gist of the conversation.

"Neil Diamond cantó anoche muy, pero muy bien. Pasó de regular."

"Mi novia :) me dijo unas cosas horribles. Pasó de regular"

In both phrases, both things happen all the time, but this one time was exceptional!.
