Context: ¿No daba la talla como actor?

I think "fit" is the perfect translation.

I agree with Ambarina's proposals.
@Poli: it comes from the idea that a real actor's "size" (understood both as "talla" and "tamaño") is bigger than the one from the so-called actor who reveals too "small" to fit in.

Rather than Doy a entender, I think it should be: Me doy cuenta de que el verbo dar se encuentra en muchos dichos.:)
