A este tipo de preguntas nosotros las llamamos "discusiones bizantinas" (no sé si también se dice en inglés). Pero la pregunta bien hecha no es con un pollo, sino con una gallina :D (hasta la fecha, nadie conoce ningún pollo que haya puesto un huevo) :D

La respuesta la dieron los científicos hace años: primero fue el huevo.El huevo es un organismo unicelular en un principio (ya tendrá tiempo de evolucionar más tarde ;) ); una gallina es un organismo pluricelular. Para generar un organismo pluricelular necesitamos fecundar ese óvulo de gallina para que se pueda convertir en varias células, dando lugar al ser llamado gallina. En la teoría de la evolución, cuando nació la primera gallina resultado de los diversos estadios evolutivos, ésta salió de un huevo.

Por lo tanto: primero fue el huevo y mucho, pero muuuuucho tiempo antes, la bacteria ;)

In colloquial Mexican Spanish, people sometimes call live chickens "pollos" even though they know the correct word is "gallina".
